Edward Blue Flight Instructor Scholarship
In Memory of Edward Blue, the GSLFIA has recently renamed its scholarship fund. These scholarships are awarded to flight instructor members of GSLFIA to be used toward obtaining an advanced rating. The GSLFIA makes this scholarship possible to provide advanced training in any area of aviation to qualified applicants who promote safety, knowledge, professionalism, and proficiency in their flight instruction.

Application Criteria
The person applying for this scholarship must meet the following criteria:

- Submit a complete application.
- Submit the names and phone numbers of three references. Please include a flight instructor and a previous or current student as two of your references.
- Be a current member of GSLFIA.
- Have completed the written test (if applicable) for the certificate or rating sought.
- Submit a statement/paragraph that addresses your goals in aviation and how this certificate/rating will help you accomplish these goals.
How It Works
The scholarship will be awarded to individuals selected by the board of directors of the Greater St. Louis Flight Instructors Association or by a committee determined by the board. The award will cover the flight instruction necessary to complete the rating by a GSLFIA flight instructor, check ride by a GSLFIA designee, and the aircraft rental fees in amounts predetermined, not to exceed $800. A request for additional monies may be considered on a case by case basis.

Edward Blue
1929 – 2009
Edward A. Blue, 80, of Washington, Mo., formerly of Belleville, Ill., born Feb. 20, 1929, in East St. Louis, Ill., Edward was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois and his Master’s Degree from St. Louis University. Mr. Blue retired as a teacher from Parks College, where he was also the aviator science director. He was a pilot examiner for the FAA, and also a member of many organizations, including the St. Louis Flight Instructor’s Association, the St. Clair County Retired Teacher’s Association, and the Knights of Columbus. He helped create the Belleville Area College Flight Program and founded the Vocational Aviation Program for East Saint Louis and Lincoln High Schools. Edward was a U.S. Army veteran.
